Full Synopsis
Medieval fantasy meets futuristic science fiction
in this effects-heavy action epic from former X-Files director Rob Bowman. In present-day London, 12-year-old Quinn Abercromby witnesses the awakening
of a hibernating dragon from a centuries-long slumber, the result of a construction dig supervised by his mother and an incident
for which Quinn feels partially responsible. Twenty years later, the adult Quinn (Christian Bale) is the fire chief of a refortified
castle community, responsible for dousing the blazes lit by the dragon's prodigious number of flame-spewing offspring, airborne
juggernauts that have wreaked havoc across the globe, torching civilization and turning humans into an endangered species.
Hope arrives in the form of Denton "Dragon Slayer" Van Zan (Matthew McConaughey), an American known to be the only man to
ever kill one of the dragons, and Alex Jenson (Izabella Scorupco), a scientist/pilot who's a member of Van Zan's army, a zealous
fighting force that includes a secret weapon: the Archangels, paratroopers using themselves as bait to attract and then dispatch
the deadly beasts. Reign of Fire (2002) co-stars Gerard Butler, Alice Krige, and Alexander Siddig. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

Full Synopsis
The acclaimed graphic novel from crime writer Max
Allan Collins becomes this big budget Dreamworks drama from director Sam Mendes and screenwriter David Self. Tom Hanks stars
as Michael Sullivan, a morally conflicted Depression-era hit man committing murder in the name of his employer, John Rooney
(Paul Newman). A kindly, aging Irish crime boss who raised Sullivan as his surrogate son, Rooney is affiliated with Al Capone
in Chicago and thus wields great power in the "Tri-Cities" of Moline, IL; Rock Island, IL; and Davenport, IA. Curious about
his father's mysterious profession, Sullivan's son, Michael Jr. (Tyler Hoechlin), stows away in his father's automobile one
night and witnesses the execution of a man at the hands of Sullivan and Rooney's biological son, Connor (Daniel Craig). Although
Michael keeps his promise to remain silent about what he's seen, the paranoid and unstable Connor tries to wipe out the entire
Sullivan clan anyway, succeeding only in killing Sullivan's wife, Annie (Jennifer Jason Leigh), and youngest son, Peter (Liam
Aiken). Enraged at this and another surprise betrayal by the Rooneys, Sullivan embarks on a path of bloody retribution, Michael
in tow. Although he intends to leave his boy with relatives in the rural town of Perdition once the coast is clear, he ends
up exposing Michael to the goriest aspects of his talents, slaughtering former associates as he dodges contract assassin Maguire
(Jude Law) and cripples the cash flow of the Rooney and Capone organizations through a series of bank robberies, attempting
to force either mob family to offer up the sequestered Connor as a sacrifice. Inspired by the popular Japanese comic book
series Lone Wolf and Cub and based loosely on an episode from the life and career of notorious real-life crime figures John
and Connor Looney, Road to Perdition co-stars Stanley Tucci as legendary Chicago mobster Frank Nitti. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

Full Synopsis
Loosely inspired by the true story of the heavy
metal band Judas Priest, this music industry fable from director Stephen Herek is based on a script by actor-turned-writer/director
John Stockwell. Mark Wahlberg stars as Chris Cole, a wannabe rock star who works by day as a copy machine repairman and by
night as the lead singer of Blood Pollution, a Pennsylvania tribute band that imitates the best-selling heavy metal rockers
of Steel Dragon. Although he's supported by his girlfriend Emily (Jennifer Aniston), Chris is devastated when his friends kick him out of the band he founded. His humiliation doesn't
last long, however, as Chris soon learns that he's been tapped to replace the lead singer of Steel Dragon, literally becoming
a rock star overnight. Chris soon has everything he's ever wanted but is disappointed to discover that being a superstar isn't
everything it's cracked up to be. Rock Star was produced under two other titles, "Metal God" and "So You Want to Be a Rock
Star." ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
